The Tennis Pro Who Wouldn’t Give Up:
Did you know that Wimbledon was the last of the four grand slam tennis championships to grant equal pay for women and that a five-time Wimbledon champion, Venus Williams, worked relentlessly to make it happen? With the 2013 US Open tennis championships (granted equal pay in 1973) starting in just a few days, we thought it was worthy to peek back at how she did it and to honor her for playing a role in ensuring that women got equal pay at the pro level. She proved that when a door shuts in your face again and again, you should never give up. All you have to do is follow the three R’s: Regroup, Retool, Re-strategize and try again until it lets you in!
Good luck to all the men and women playing in the 2013 US Open tennis championships! We’ll be watching, will you?
Happy Friday!
