Apps We Love This Week – Name that Artist!

Apps we love this week. Discover apps for creativity, getting organized, creativity, fashion, beauty, social media, and more! This is a first of a series of posts that will highlight the Apps that gapmuse loves each week and thinks that you’ll love too!

Okay, so if you’re like me, love music, listen to all kinds of it, but have very little time on your hands, you probably discover new music on the go; while driving, waiting in line somewhere, at a restaurant, etc.   And what’s the first thing that comes to mind for most of us when we hear a great song for the first time?  Who’s that artist?  If you can’t for the life of you guess who it is and if no one around you knows either, you get frustrated, promise to find out later only to be distracted and go through the same emotions when you hear it again!

Well, that’s about to change for you with Shazam®!  I discovered this nifty little app through a friend and I’ve been loving it ever since!  What’s really amazing is how easy it is to use it.  You just download the app to your phone or tablet and when you hear a song you love, simply tap on Shazam to listen and the app instantly identifies the artist and automatically tags the song for you!  You can then buy, share, or comment on the song.  It’s that easy!

And that’s not all!  Once you’ve tagged something, you can view the videos on YouTube, sing along to the song lyrics with LyricPlay™ to streamed lyrics and read the artist’s biography and discography.  Shazam lets you share your discoveries with friends on Shazam Friends or on Twitter®, Facebook® and Google®+.  Want to find out the most popular songs around the world?  Use the interactive maps.  It’s like your very own GPS for music!  Shazam even lets you find TV shows and ads if that’s your thing.

Shazam is available on all major platforms, including iPhone®, iPod® touch, Android®, Windows® Phone, Windows 8, BlackBerry®, iPad®, and Shazam Red, which donates 20% of the purchase price to fight HIV and Aids in Africa!  Hey, who doesn’t like an app that is doing something to make a better life for someone else?

Shazam is available as a free download from iTunes® and app stores for the other major platforms.

Here are my favorite Shazam tags this week: Treasure by Bruno Mars, Blurred Lines by Robin Thicke featuring TI and Pharrell, and Get Lucky by Daft Punk featuring Pharrell.

So go ahead, join the 300+ million people around the world discovering and sharing music using Shazam.  You’re sure to have fun while doing it.

Have any favorite apps that you’d like to share this week?

  1. I’ve known of Shazam for years, but never use it. I need to engage with technology more often, or the youngsters are going to beat me out of my job! 🙂 Thanks for sharing, I look forward to the future app posts.

    • I hear you Meg! It really is a great app! I’ve been using it for awhile now and love that it allows me to keep up, especially with new artists! They’re so many young new artists now and it’s hard to stay up to date given our busy lives!
